Collaboration between UNEP/GRID-Geneva and the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) on in-situ data

Following a call to the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) community to share in situ real-time data, the UNEP/GRID-Geneva team has developed two use cases using the Global Agricultural Monitoring (GEOGLAM) Flagship, and Environment and Climate Change Canada. The first provides an integrated view of distributed international crop status monitoring, whereas the second shows various climate scenarios outputs in the Canadian and Arctic regions.

More specifically, the first use case was set up with GEOGLAM to publish in-situ data into MapX representing monthly global synthesis crop conditions. This data is streamed in real-time from the GEOGLAM Crop Monitor (https://cropmonitor.org/). A time slider allows displaying the data.

The second use case was set up with the Canadian Meteorological Center to publish about 70 in-situ datasets on climate change into MapX. This includes statistically downscaled scenarios (RCP 2.6, 4.5 and 8.5) of projected minimum, mean and maximum temperatures, total precipitations change and standardized precipitation evapotranspiration index. Historical values are also available.
