Brief Description

The Workshop on Marine Litter National Source Inventories in Seychelles was held on 05 September 2019 in Victoria, Seychelles, in partnership with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of Seychelles, the Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association (WIOMSA), and the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO). The objectives of the workshop were to debrief on the National Marine Litter Data Collection Workshop, which had occurred immediately preceding this workshop, while including policy-makers from the Ministry of Environment to present preliminary results of the data collection to them and discuss future steps. The concept of National Source Inventories was presented and detailed, with feedback received. A strong interest was expressed in continuing this approach with further data collection including on other islands of the Seychellois archipelago, with a long term view of developing a national action plan on marine litter, in line with the Nairobi Convention’s Regional Action Plan for Marine Litter in East Africa.
